Corolla – Carova – 4WD Beaches
The North Carolina Outer Banks begin here. Currituck County is home to Corolla and, to the north, the four-wheel-drive beach communities of Swan Beach and Carova. Established in 1668 Currituck County is one of the first areas to be settled in the U.S. It is also one of the five original North Carolina counties. Currituck is an Algonquin Indian term meaning “The Land of the Wild Goose”.
Geese and waterfowl drew some of the original tourists to the area hundreds of years ago. While that is still a draw for some, it is the beaches that bring thousands to Corolla and Carova each year. There is always something to see and explore here no matter the time of year. You may even see the wild horses!
The neighborhoods in Corolla include Buck Island, Corolla Bay (both the Villas At Corolla Bay and Soundfront At Corolla Bay) Corolla Light, Corolla Village, Crown Point, The Currituck Club, Ocean Hill and The Villages At Ocean Hill, Ocean Lake, Ocean Sands, Pine Island, Pine Island Reserve, Spindrift, and Whalehead.
