Resources – Utilities
As you now know by looking for the perfect Outer Banks Home, the OBX is made up of several small communities/townships/villages and many unincorporated areas. Knowing which utility service you need is sometimes a bit of a challenge. If we are working together I will have already prepared a list of what you will need and the contact information to help you get the services you need. However, if you are just beginning your search and are curious, or just need a quick link, below are some of the providers you may need.
ELECTRIC
Dominion is the electric provider for much of northeastern North Carolina. They provide electricity for all of Currituck County, the Dare county beaches north of Oregon Inlet, and Roanoke Island. Click here to go to their page for new customers.
South of Oregon Inlet in Dare County, Hatteras Island, power is provided by Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative.
Power for Dare County Mainland and Hyde County including Ocracoke is provided by Tideland EMC.
Water – Sewer
This is where it gets a bit confusing. I’ll break it down by county.
Dare County
For most of the county, the Dare County Water Department is the provider. Their phone number is 252-475-5990. Click here for a form to apply for new service.
For Kill Devil Hills this link will take you to the town’s water department. There are links and information on the page that will help you get the service established.
For new Nags Head residents, this link will take you to their water department.
For Manteo click here to go to the town’s water department.
Currituck Outer Banks
The Currituck Water Department has three divisions. The Currituck Mainland Water Department, which is self-explanatory. Pine Island. Finally, there is the Ocean Sands Water & Sewer District, which encompasses Ocean Sands sections D, E, F, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, and Crown Point.
For waste disposal and recycling Bay Disposal, Inc. is the provider. Their phone number is (252) 491-5105
Hyde County (Ocracoke)

Phone/Internet
Service from Centurylink is available throughout the region. On Ocracoke, it is your only choice unless you choose a satellite provider.
In Dare County, and on the Currituck Outer Banks, service from Spectrum is also available.
Currituck Mainland has service from Mediacom as an option.
